Motorsport India has announced that its one-make racing series, which was earlier termed as the , will be called the Ameo Cup for the 2017 season. The company has also announced that registrations for the Drivers’ Selection round of the 2017 Volkswagen Ameo Cup are open. Registered drivers will be having their selection round on 17th and 18th December 2016, at the Indi Karting Track in Pune.
The racing series was first introduced in the country in 2010. The 2016 season has just recently been concluded, earlier this month. Volkswagen earlier used Polo TDIs, then Polo TSIs, and then Vento cars for the championship. With the 2017 season, the German automaker has decided to employ the recently launched Ameo compact sedans for the racing series.
The 2017 Ameo Cup will be hosted as part of the . The format of the racing series will be identical to that of the 2016 Vento Cup, with the only difference being in the cars used. The racing series is expected to cover all FMSCI approved race-tracks in the country, namely the , the , and the .
The 2017 Volkswagen Ameo Cup will have a grid of 20 identically engineered Ameos. The entire season will include 10 races scheduled across the year.
